Seasonal Style Shift No. 1
Sheer Everything
Transparency is replacing heavy layering as a fresh contrast after a texture rich and heavy layered Winter season. You'll see everything from organza shirts and mesh ballet flats to sheer lace skirts and dresses. Spring/ Summer 2026 is about embracing fabrics that reveal just enough while remaining polished and wearable.
Designers and retailers alike are showing sheer pieces layered over everyday wardrobe staples, making this one of the easiest trends to adopt for everyone.
My research showed that Pinterest has seen a significant increase in searches for “sheer skirt outfits”, “organza shirts”, “oversized silk shirts” and “sheer maxi skirt outfits” confirming that this trend has moved well beyond the runway in European countries.
The pieces you’ll see everywhere
This trend appears across multiple categories and items you have started seeing in the past season or two and will continue seeing EVERYWHERE, are:
- Mesh ballet flats - seen
- Mesh Mary Janes - seen
- Sheer maxi skirts - seen
- Organza shirts - new
- Chiffon blouses - new
- Mesh layering tops - seen
- Sheer dresses - new
- Transparent overlays - new
- Sheer socks - seen
- Organza jackets - new
- Mesh handbags - seen
- Organza skirts - new

The look and feel
This season’s interpretation is softer and more wearable than naked dressing.
Think more elegant rather than revealing. Layered rather than exposed. Airy rather than overly oversized pieces and feminine without feeling overly romantic.
The easiest way to wear the trend is to treat sheer fabrics as a finishing layer rather than the main event:
- A sheer skirt over a shorter lining/ skirt
- an organza shirt over a camisole or t-shirt.
Who should try it?
This trend works beautifully for women who enjoy a modern, understated aesthetic. It suits those who prefer adding interest through texture rather than bold prints or colour. Whether your style leans classic, minimalist or contemporary, sheer fabrics can introduce a lighter, more elevated feel without overpowering your wardrobe.
What I'd buy
✔ A mesh ballet flat (if you love it and feel that it suits your shape/ silhouette)
✔ An organza shirt/ jacket - I love the idea of wearing a super summery top and adding one of these two over
✔ A sheer midi skirt with a built-in lining (or if it doesn't have a built-in lining, wear a mini skirt/ ski-pant underneath)
✔ A sheer layering top
What I'd skip
✘ Fully transparent garments that rely on visible underwear (we'll talk about items that almost look like underwear, but are actually meant to be worn as outerwear later)
✘ Transparent items that are too oversized
✘ Overly stiff organza that lacks movement
✘ Fast-fashion versions with poor finishing, as these often lose their shape after only a few wears. Cheap mesh that catches easily is also a big no.
