Some of these I managed to get right from when Miya was little, but much of it I completely forgot about it and I’d like to implement with my daughters where I still can. It’s never too late 🫶🏽
1. Paint her nails. And let her scratch it off and dirty them up again. This teaches her to care about her appearance but also reminds her that living and having fun is just as important.
2. Let her put on your make-up ever so often. This allows her to experiment in her attempts to be just like you.
3. Allow her to be wild. She may want to stay home to read books on your couch. She may want to hop on the back of a motorcycle. She may be a homebody. She may be a traveller. She may fall in love with the wrong boy and get her heart broken. She may meet Mr Right (for her) at the age of 14. Always remember that you too were her age once and we all need to make mistakes to learn and to grow. Allow her to make her own and be there to support her through it.
4. Be present. Be aware. Be there for her at as many performances, plays, sport games and “things” in her everyday life. In a crowd of people, even when she is older, she’ll look for your smile and nod of approval. Show it to her as often as you can.
5. Teach her independence. Show her by example that a woman can be strong. Find and vigorously follow your own passions. Define yourself, as a woman, as a mother, by your own attributes, not by what others expect you to be. Know who you are as a person and in doing so you help your daughter find out who she is.
6. Pick flowers with her and show her how to arrange them for her room or for your lining room where everyone can enjoy their beauty.
7. Allow her, especially when young, to get messy. And get messy with her. Bake mud pies, plash in puddles, finger paint. Allow it to happen. The most wonderful memories are the messy ones.
8. Give her good role models. You being one of them. Introduce her to successful and happy women; your friends, co-workers, authors, teachers, astronauts and doctors. Read to her about Rosa Parks, Marie Curie and the likes. She should know from a young age that anything is possible.
9. Show her affection. Your daughter will mimic the compassion of her mother. All the “I love yous” and eskimo kisses and hugs go a long way.
10. Hold her hand as much as you can. Whether she’s the three year old in the parking lot or the sixteen year old in the mall, hold onto her as much as possible. This not only teaches her to be confident in herself but also to be proud of her family.
11. Believe in her. It is in the moments that she doesn’t believe in herself that she needs you to believe enough for the both of you. When she’s young it may be a spelling test, a sports game or a school play recital. When she’s older it may be her first party or school dance, her first date, the first day of university…Remind her of the independent and capable woman you have taught her to be.
12. Teach her how to love passionately. Love your husband. Teach her to love a good man, like him. One who lets her be herself. Express your love for him, her and her siblings.
13. Make forts with boxes and blankets. This helps her find magic in the ordinary, to imagine, to create. Someday she’ll be able to make her 5m x 5m room in a dorm/ hostel her home with her own magic touches and inspiration she learnt from you.
14. Read to her. The beauty of words on a page should be enjoyed. The knowledge they hold can shape who she becomes.
15. Encourage her to dance and sing and be happy. Allow her to express herself through her favourite songs and the music she likes. Allow her to play it loudly and let her sing her heart out.
16. Share your secrets and keep hers. Communicate. Talk. Talk about everything. Let her tell you about boys, friends, school. Share hopes and dreams, concerns, personal wins and losses. She’s not only your daughter and you’re not only her mother. Be her friend too.
17. Teach her manners. Please. You are her mother and not her friend only. The world is a much better place when made up of polite words, smiles and manners. Teach her elegance and to carry herself with grace. Teach her to read cues and react politely.
18. Also teach her to stand up and walk away when a situation demands it. This means that you teach her the value of respect. This doesn’t mean that you teach her to fight back with fists of words; it means she knows which battles are worthy of fighting.
19. Share the joys of motherhood with her. Let her see that being her mother is one of your greatest accomplishments. Remind her over and over again with words and with hugs that no one can love her like you love her.
20. Always be her home. When she’s not feeling well or has a broken heart, let her come to you. Welcome and comfort her. When big things happen, like when she is engaged or pregnant, she will run to you to share her news. She is your daughter and if you are her home, she will always return to you. Her home.

]]>For day six of the #StyleChallege everyone is invited to wear black and white only. It is highly recommended to curate a small black and white capsule for your wardrobe. It's in this timeless, versatile combination of these two colours, where elegance in simplicity is found and my clients discover the power of black and white dressing.
I trust you now appreciate the elegance and practicality of a black and white capsule wardrobe. If this is an extremely boring wardrobe for you, create a sectional capsule consisting of black items, white items and cleverly chosen black and white printed items. Trust the idea that smart wardrobe choices can contribute to a more intentional and efficient lifestyle.

]]>Day five explores the trendy fusion of wearing dresses with sneakers. A brief history lesson on the origins of this stylish pairing and some additional insights on the most flattering dress lengths for women standing taller than 1.68m and those whom are shorter than 1.68m to follow below.
Day four is about showing off your own most recent purchase. Mine being a pair of very chunky Timberland sandals, I thought it's the perfect opportunity to focus on breaking the myth that chunky sandals are an unsuitable shoe choice for larger or bigger boned women. Today, I'm showcasing a few chunky sandal options I identified in Menlyn-stores to encourage you to try them and see that they are not just fashionable, but also flattering for all body types.
Share your own experiences by stepping into the trendy and inclusive world of the chunky sandal for the rest of Summer 2024 and Spring/ Summer 2025 x m

Day three is a celebration of the timeless appeal of the blue jean and we're exploring the diverse and trendy options available this year. By styling your favourite pair of blue (or black or grey) jeans, I trust all the participants in the #StyleChallenge are going to show off the versatility of this item as a perennial favourite in the wardrobe. Some style insights for you:
This should all inspire you to have a slightly better understanding of the denim trends for the year and styling each style variant with some extra know-how and confidence x m
]]>Day two of the #MenlynStyleChallenge celebrates the understated sophistication of neutrals, emphasising the impact of a single pop of colour. This intentional focus not only adds vibrancy to the ensemble but also allows for a strong and memorable fashion statement. Here's why a solitary pop of colour should be the centrepiece in an outfit of neutrals:
A graphic tee is more than just a piece of clothing; it's a canvas for self-expression. Owning a series of graphic tees is a wardrobe essential because it allows individuals to showcase their unique personalities, interests and values. Here are a few compelling reasons why graphic tees should resonate with you:
My #StyleTip: build a collection of tees that truly reflect your individuality
]]>Each day's theme, intentionally features an item (or items) that serve a specific purpose in your wardrobe. Perhaps you were aware of that purpose, perhaps you were previously oblivious? But after this challenge, you'll know ;)
]]>Back by popular demand! This time with added educational flair; the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre 7-day #StyleChallenge kicks off next Monday, 22 January 2024 and runs for seven full days, until the 28th.
The prizes are beyond grand! You can win a R 20 000, Menlyn Park shopping spree voucher AND a one-on-one Wardrobe Masterclass, with me!

I'm sharing the seven themes below and I'm also publishing a blog post every single day for the entire 7-day duration of the #MenlynStyleChallenge to tell you why the theme of the day is not just randomly chosen. Each day's theme, intentionally features an item (or items) that serve a specific purpose in your wardrobe. Perhaps you were aware of that purpose, perhaps you were previously oblivious? The ongoing battle to get the upper hand on my (gut) health continued throughout 2023. Three things made a massive difference to me:
NAD Iv-therapy on a regular basis,
taking Raw Biotics Gut Correct daily,
taking Pro-active Collagen daily.
Also recently openend in The Village in Hazelwood, Pretoria, is Masch Atelier. Their leather bags are truly one-of-a-kind pieces and the quality is absolutely amazing. Desigual has a range of very pretty sling bags - I love the soft fabric and fun prints they have per season. Everyone can agree that cellphone slings were the ultimate accessory of 2023 - freeing our hands and keeping us connected all at the same time ;) Sedgars, are importing and selling the infamous Marc Jacobs Tote bag. I shopped mine on a trip to Paris last year, but they have become this years most sought after bag in South Africa
One shoe style that didn't make it to my top four, but definitely ranks right up there, are the Adidas ranges that have become so popular over the last year. Samba's, Handball Spezial's and the Gazelle's brought new life to our outfits. Beyond those, I sourced a range of genuine leather shoes that are for sale on my website. They are truly timeless and great quality pairs of shoes that are extremely comfortable and I've chosen styles that will go with everything in your wardrobe. Again, Toni Pons are on my favourites list...nothing comes to the classic elegance of these shoes imported all the way from Spain.

When the kids were much younger, we wanted the flexibility offered by self-catering accommodation to be able to have space and options (especially in the kitchen) to accommodate our five children in their various phases of life. Five years on, nothing has changed. When we go away as a family of seven, we choose self-catering units as it works for us.
Although most self-catering units have a number of items available for you to use, I'll share my complete lists of what I pack extra.
These are the main categories of lists I work from:
I hope this makes your packing less stressful. I work off this list when we go away for weekends or on longer trips and adapt where I see fit. Comments and suggestions are very welcome xx m

]]>I'm humbly grateful for each and every woman who has taken part in Day 1 to Day 15 of the September Fashion Challenge, so far.
The number of messages I've received just blew me away. Not everyone submitted their images, but they all communicated the same message to me: how much they enjoy the challenge, how much they have learnt about the basics that a wardrobe should have and that they can already see how many options they will have by adding these functional and versatile items into their respective wardrobes. This is EXACTLY what the challenge is about!
Up until now...
The next few days' outfits are built around some of the items that you wore somewhere between Day 1 and Day 15. For others, you will have to add in a trendy item that are in stores now or a statement item that you also may have in your wardrobe, but don't wear that often. Interpret and make each day YOUR OWN... here we go!
Day 16 - Old Money Style. Choose and wear any three favourite items you wore during Day 1 to Day 15 in an outfit together. Add some "Old Money"-accessories and details to your outfit : an old school peak cap, a fancy watch, a silk scarf in your ponytail, mix chunky rings and chunky earrings in gold and pearls or wear your biggest, blackest pair
Day 17 - Get Graphic. Wear a bright or graphic tee with any one of your Day 1 to Day 15 basic bottoms. Make the outfit your own by choosing your shoes and accessories to elevate the look. I'll go for chunky and/ or statement.
Day 18 - Yes To The Dress. Wear a favourite, colourful or printed dress. If it's cool, wear a jacket (Day 2, Day 4 or Day 8) and sneakers or a sandal. Also layer on your fine gold, silver or rose gold chains (of various lengths and thicknesses), stack your ears and fingers for an extra boho-femme finish to the look
Day 19 - Blue Jean Talk. Today dress up your favourite pair of blue jeans (Day 3) with a gorgeous, statement (anglaise, cutout, puff sleeved, printed or brightly coloured, well designed blouse and your sandals of Day 15
Day 20 - Mono-Textures. Wear a light, neutral coloured, monochromatic
[adjective
outfit and let the focus fall on texture. Use your summer knit (Day 10) and a textured (woven grass bag, Day 12) to make the look more natural and earthy. Add in chunky gold or pearl accessories to elevate the look if you want.
Day 21 - Tropical Getaway. Let's go to a tropical paradise today by wearing a vibrant, printed-outfit. Opt for a floral dress (or skirt), a tropical-themed top paired with white shorts, linen wide legged pants with a sage or green vest. Think palm trees and sea shells all the way. Add a straw hat, oversized sunglasses, and/ or espadrilles to complete the resort-ready look
Day 22 - Casual Cool. Go for absolute, effortless coolness today with a casual outfit. Pair your plain tee with high-waisted shorts or jeans. Throw on a denim jacket (Day 4 - if it's cooler) Accessorise with a simple leather belt and sneakers for a laid-back yet stylish ensemble. I'm also doing my Curated Style peak today. Shop yours HERE
Day 23 - All White & Black. Create a chic look by wearing all-white with black accessories. If this is too trendy for you, wear a great black-and-white outfit. This minimalist approach in an outfit exudes sophistication in this summer heat.
Day 24 - Print Clash. Today is a little street style challenge for all of you; mix and match bold prints. Combine a patterned top with a contrasting patterned bottom. Or, wear a patterned dress and use a contrasting patterned bag.
Day 25 - Sunset Glam. Dress up today as if you are going to a sunset soirée. Wear a stylish dress (Day 14) and add metallic or jewel-toned accessories like a bag or statement jewellery. You could do strappy sandals or wedges as a touch of elegance. Remember your sunset-inspired makeup (add in a little bronzer for the beach babe glow!) and capture the golden hour in your photos. You only live once!
Day 26 - City Chic. Today we embrace city style (yes, even if you live in a small town) with a sleek and sophisticated outfit. Wear your blazer (Day 8) paired with tailored shorts or classic cut pants (Day 7). Add elegant heels or flat summer sandals (Day 15). This ensemble is perfect for a summer day in the city.
Day 27 - 90's Revival. Give a nod to the past by featuring a 90's-inspired item in your outfit OR if you're up for it, wear a complete 90's-vibe outfit. Think grunge, oversized flannel shirts, baggy jeans, platform sneakers and a mix of minimalist and bold, colourful patterns.
Day 28 - Shopaholic. Wear your most recent purchase today and tell me why you bought it and with which of your Day 1 to Day 15 basics, you can wear it. #ihopeits3
Day 29 - Texas Tux. One of my favourites. You know it; denim on denim. Remember, it doesn't have to be blue on blue. Use grey, beige, charcoal and black denim too
Day 30 - Wardrobe Planner. Gorgeous outfits take much less effort, coordination or planning than you may think (and have learnt through participating in this challenge). If you have all the right, good and quality basics, you can create amazing looks by adding your personal touch with the details; items true to your style essence, items of colour, print, interest or design details.
For today, plan your own outfits for five days using any five themes of my 30-Day Fashion Challenge. Day 1 to 15 looks HERE
Share two images with me today:
I cannot wait to see your looks!

I'm definitely doing the #septemberfashionchallenge for my fashion-community and followers again! This one is going to be a better and a bigger challenge than the three previous challenges we've done; read carefully! Apart from the prizes that can be won (from day 16 to 30), this challenge should teach you three main things:
1. Which basics should be in your wardrobe for Spring and Summer every year. The point is to add them in if you do not have them. Where possible, we will try find suitable versions of the items featured in Day 1 to Day 15 in stores at the moment.
These items are key purchases; where you invest time to try on and find the best possible version that fit you properly and make you feel good about yourself. Buy the best quality versions of these items. These items are simple and you carry them over from season to season, from year to year, and replace religiously if they are "tired".
2. How certain wardrobe base items can be incorporated in a number of ways to create stylish (elevated) looks, even if they are casual. Your clothes are meant to be worn in a number of different ways.
3. You can enjoy your own clothes and you can do more than you think with what you have; you may need items here or there, but most women have a number of garments they can learn to wear. This is your chance.
Take part by joining in on the challenge on Instagram. You don't need to post/ share your outfits on Instagram, you can choose to share with me and my team privately/ publicly.
Tag @curated_style_sa and/ or @madeliefietjie if you do decide to share your outfits publicly, we'd love to see them and reward you with a prize.
You do not need to take part every day to win a prize. We will choose our ten to fifteen favourite looks, daily. Depending on the type of the prize* up for grabs, we will either share a daily or weekly winner for the specific prizes. *If you or your company want to sponsor a prize for one of our outfit winners, please complete this form here.
Use the "hashtags"
REMEMBER to tag and mention us so we can see and share your looks.
Day 1 - Do your best with a summer coat. A thin trench or rain jacket in either a light, neutral colour or a dark, neutral colour. Tip - try keep the rest of your outfit in similar tones
Day 2 - Dress up any other jacket (NOT a blazer!) in your your wardrobe. This can either be a thin leather jacket or a shacket (shirt-jacket) in either a light neutral or dark neutral colour. If it’s hot, layer lightly so you can take off during the day and layer back on as it gets cooler towards the afternoon
Day 3 - Do your best with your favourite pair of blue jeans & some light or dark neutrals
Day 4 - Dress up your best denim jacket
Day 5 - Play it cool with your denim shirt today
Day 7 - A classy pair of pants that form part of your "smart-casual separates suit" - DON'T wear the blazer today, we’re wearing the blazer tomorrow ;)
Day 8 - Do your favourite spring/ summer seasonal blazer in an outfit today; preferably a light neutral or a dark neutral
Day 9 - Wear either a light neutral, a dark neutral or a stripe t-shirt YOUR way today
Day 10 - Dress up either a light neutral or a dark neutral sweater top, cardigan or summer knit today
Day 11 - Rock any other light neutral or dark neutral bottom today. Try doing one of these two looks: with sandals/ ankle boots and your jacket from Day 3 as a dressier look OR one with your denim jacket from Day 4 and sneakers for a more casual look
Day 13 - Show off your latest sneaker purchase or the sneaker you most enjoy wearing with summer shorts, summer dresses and cropped jeans. Tip - you score extra brownie-points if your choice is our own White Leather sneaker
Day 14 - Wear either a light, neutral coloured or dark, neutral coloured dress. Tip - if it's cool today, try one of these two looks: a dress with sandals/ ankle boots and your jacket from Day 2 as a dressier look OR a dress with your denim jacket from Day 4 and sneakers for a more casual look
And that’s Day 1 to Day 15 wrapped up!
Every single, summer-wardrobe needs the minimum of these basic items; it doesn’t matter how old or young, tall or short, fat or skinny you are. Own, love and feel confident in each version one of the items used in the looks above.
The more versions of these basic items you have, the better equipped you are to wear your favourite seasonal colours, prints and items of style and interest in more ways than in just one outfit - more about this in Day 16 to Day 30!

In most of my client sessions I get asked about jewellery and its place in a wardrobe and with outfits. To me, the jewellery you choose is the final touch to every look and it communicates a message about your essence as a person (to learn more about your own style essence, click here). Although there are fashionable jewellery trends that come and go, one fact remains: creating a small jewellery capsule for yourself is an excellent way to showcase your style while maintaining sustainability.
Instead of purchasing numerous plastic, resin and other forms of costume jewellery pieces, a well-curated "genuine" jewellery collection can be passed down through generations as heirlooms.
Your personal jewellery capsule should include versatile and timeless pieces that can be styled with a variety of outfits, as well as a few (at least one) sentimental piece(s) that has personal meaning. I recently discovered the Sir George Jewellery brand and I've ordered a number of pieces from them that I wear religiously. Some of their key pieces that I've included into my own jewellery capsule are available to order here, on my Curated Style-website, too.
These are some essential pieces to consider when creating your own jewellery capsule:
Sentimental Piece - The sentimental piece should be something that has personal significance, such as a family heirloom or a piece of jewellery that has been reworked to create something new. It adds a touch of sentimentality to your collection and can be passed down to future generations.
Diamond Studs - Diamond studs are a must-have in any jewellery collection. They are simple yet elegant and can be worn with any outfit, adding a touch of sparkle to your look. These timeless earrings can be worn year-round and are perfect for any occasion.
Classic Watch - A classic watch is a versatile accessory that adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit. A minimalist design in gold or silver can be paired with both winter and summer outfits. If you have loads op pinks and greens in your wardrobe, rose gold can also work well.
Everyday Necklace - An everyday necklace like a beaded chain or a dainty paperclip necklace is an excellent addition to your capsule. It can be worn alone or layered with other necklaces for a more statement look.
Statement Necklace - A statement necklace like a herringbone or chunky rope necklace can elevate any outfit. It's perfect for dressing up a simple t-shirt or adding some glamour to a little black dress.
Cocktail Ring - A cocktail ring is a fun addition to your jewellery collection. It can be worn for special occasions or to add some sparkle to an everyday outfit.
Golden Hoop Earrings Golden hoop earrings are a classic and versatile piece of jewellery. They come in different sizes, and both 10mm and 12mm are perfect for adding a touch of fun elegance to your look.
Herringbone or Chunky Rope Bracelet - A herringbone or chunky rope bracelet can add texture and interest to your outfit. It's perfect for layering with other bracelets or wearing on its own. I like wearing mine on the same arm as my rugged Garmin watch for that chic-sporty look.
Coloured Precious or Semi-Precious Stone Earrings - Lastly, a pair of coloured precious or semi-precious stone earrings like tanzanite, black diamond, emerald, or ruby can add a pop of colour to your outfit. These earrings can be worn for special occasions or to add some interest to an everyday look.
In conclusion, a well-curated jewellery capsule can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to both your winter and summer outfits.
By including timeless pieces like diamond studs, a classic watch, and versatile everyday and statement necklaces, along with a sentimental piece and some fun additions like a cocktail ring and coloured precious stone earrings, you can create a collection that reflects your personal style and can be passed down through generations. Longevity & eternal style. This is what I love xx m
]]>1. I've invested a lot of time and/ or money buying clothes that I love (or think I love,) BUT I never get to wear the majority of what's in my closet.
2. The clothes I have don't seem to work together.
3. I am stuck wearing the same outfits; although different items, I always seem to "look the same".
4. Instead of looking stylish and "well put together", I feel flat and frumpy.
5. I'm tired of not looking good, not feeling stylish, while I have a closet filled to the brim with garments that I would like to wear, but not sure how I can.
All of these are all true & honest comments by women who have taken the leap and chose to employ me for my services.
With my Curated Style-process, I've broken the "why your wardrobe needs a proper planning session" down into something that is easily grasped. We manage and plan every aspect of our lives, meticulously. Why are our wardrobes and closets different? Women need to be educated on the "how". The "why" falls into place directly after ;)
By performing my unique (and proven successful) Master Detox and by adding a few key pieces, you'll be able to transform your closet into a personal wardrobe filled with OPTIONS.

I met Jana and Jani by chance; a mutual friend (kudo's to you Lize!) invited me to one of their Sip & Fit, private events (yes, invites only!).
These girls have a passion for what they do and both have a keen eye for unique garments; I shopped a few pieces for myself and some items for my Masterclass capsule-wardrobes. I've attended and shopped their second event a few weeks ago and we had a blast! (Images by Roelien Malan)
In their own words:
"Someday Clothing is a brand that celebrates and empowers women to understand that fashion is an expression. The brand was started by us, two young dreamers (Jana and Jani), who deeply enjoy dressing up and shopping for other people.
Our clothes are all imported from the UK, and feature brands like Zara, Mango, Steve Madden, Lofty Manner and many more. The items are handpicked and you will only find one of a kind in our range, which makes us unique. We shop the most beautiful pieces and go through mountains of clothes to bring you the most unique finds; saving you the pain of doing it yourself.
At Someday, we have big dreams, and we wish to reach as many women as we can with our pop-ups and events. Our favourite events are called “Sip & Fit” evenings where women of all ages, shapes and sizes come together to have a wonderful time; sipping some wine and trying on our clothes while getting compliments and being encouraged by all the other people there. We envisioned this concept because we believe that shopping should be fun and done in an environment where you feel safe, inspired and encouraged.
There is so much more to be said about our brand and the other dreams we see for it. If you too are intrigued, it would be best for you to join one of their next events and see what the unity and excitement is about."

Yesterday marked the start of week 4 of my Skin Gym treatment and I am (again) SUPER IMPRESSED with the results so far.
I’ve already recommended this Schedule 3, Medical Treatment to many of my friends, clients and random strangers asking about my “dewy skin” but here is everything you need to know.
What it is and how it works?
Skin Gym is a medical prescription, skin treatment available from Lifelab in Lynnwood where dr Juanri Jonck is the general practitioner and aesthetic ‘guru’ & my own, personal skin whisperer.
She introduced me to the magic of her two creams about 3 years ago and I’ve been doing this almost three month long treatment, twice a year. Religiously.
Skin Gym completely changed the ‘composition’ of my (previously) classic combination skin to problem-free skin. I’ve seen a major reduction in blackheads, whiteheads, the occasional pimple and hormonal breakouts, fine lines, pigmentation and some of my acne marks.
I normally choose to do this treatment early in March, as soon as we spend less time outdoors as it is absolutely crucial to limit sun exposure as much as possible.
As I mentioned above, the treatment consists of a morning and a night cream. These two creams are used for 6 consecutive weeks. Week 7 is a rest week, after which a lightening peel is done on your skin.
Week 8, after your peel, is also a rest week. During your rest weeks you continue to use a Pure glycerine soap as a cleanser and Pure lotion (both included in your Skin Gym-kit). For week 9 to 12 you use only a 4% Hydroquinone cream & sunscreen daily. And hello glowing skin!!

Without me even noticing, she gently focused my attention on what was important. By asking specific questions, I realised that my responses illustrated my weaknesses. Not once during the entire process did she make me feel judged or humiliated. She gently guided me to the point where I had to call “Enough”. I refuse to end up in the same overpowering predicament ever again.
]]>No, literally. I can change yóúr life. Please read through this beautiful testimonial that a dear client wrote about our session together.
"To create living space
Caution : Beware of serious fashion overload
The huge heap of clothing on the picture attached, is indeed the insurmountable mountain in my life. If I saved a cent each time I promised myself that I would sort out my wardrobe ... you catch my drift.
I know it doesn’t make sense to be so attached to my clothes. They are worldly goods, I know. The other day in church, the preacher reminded us not to be concerned about what we will wear or eat tomorrow, because God always provides in his children’s needs.
But ... a wardrobe defines its wearer. What I wear today, reflects the me the world must see. My clothes must project a strong, confident woman in control. The clothes are supposed to cover and balance a multitude of self perceived flaws. I need to appear strong, happy and safe in my own skin.
Some time ago, we had to downscale and move to a smaller place. The downscaling seriously affected all our possessions, except, of course, my wardrobe. I point blank refused the “what ifs”, “maybe one days” and the “it is still so beautifuls” to end up in refuse bags and dropped off at the Salvation Army.
I knew, however, that I seriously needed help. I simply cannot carry on hanging on to unnecessary “feathers” any longer.
I “met” her on the internet and the entire process kicked off with me having to honestly complete a questionnaire and physically empty my entire wardrobe on my bed – shoes, bags, scarves – each and every item. (Eeeeeeeeeeek!!! I know! Sickening)
And then she arrived at my house. Very enthusiastic and dynamic: my very own, personal and beautiful Miracle Worker. I, on the other hand, wished I could hide in a little corner like ugly Cinderella. This was a humbling experience. This lady has guts and loads of chutzpah in the best sense imaginable; to enter my very private space, my bedroom, where my weaknesses were displayed in haphazard fashion.
An important switch clicked “on” and I started looking at each item in the mountain with fresh eyes. While she was asking me numerous questions, I started making the first decision to let go. The mountain “To Go” started growing at an alarming rate. It became easier and almost addictive to feed the new mountain and empty my wardrobe and mind.
With a twinkle in her eyes and a wide smile, she warned me that this process might overflow to the rest of my house. In my mind’s eye, I was already thinking about my husband’s wardrobe and then my little girl’s J I’m looking at my wall hangings and portraits and thinking – maybe some of them should go ...
I was surely getting rid of this heavy load of belongings on my shoulders : almost half of my wardrobe was on its way to new owners. In the meantime, she was busily making notes, organising my wardrobe according to colour and season and she gave me great hints, good advice and a practical eye. She changed my wardrobe to an almost “holy” space which she achieved with wisdom and a caring heart. Even though totally beyond my comfort zone, the whole process was a cleansing exercise par excellence.
I’m still experiencing the amazing relief and liberation of “travelling” lighter with less, but a whole lot better.
This is the turning point from where my entire attitude towards dressing and clothing have changed dramatically. On my own, I would still have been suffocating in an overpowering wardrobe. I had to get help. This entire process of kindness and lending a helping hand, saved me.
Thank you, dearest Madeline Rossouw. Your kindness activated the change in my attitude; one which empowered me. By sharing your power with me, you have enabled me to change my dressing ethics : one which creates open and beautiful spaces. You have a wonderful talent which you gladly and willingly share with those around you.
You will always be my Miracle Worker and I, your most willing and voluntary Cinderella."

]]>What an essential experience! I decided that I had to write an honest review, like I do with all my little skin discoveries over the last few years. If I can inspire or educate anyone through my quest to beat the effects of gravity and time on my own skin, I'm happy to share.
]]>Around this time last week, I had my very first and hopefully not my last, Diamond PRP treatment.
What an essential experience! I decided that I had to write an honest review, like I do with all my little skin discoveries over the last few years. If I can inspire or educate anyone through my quest to beat the effects of gravity and time on my own skin, I'm happy to share.
PRP is the abbreviation for Platelet-rich Plasma. It is a revolutionary technology using the ingredients of your own blood to help regenerate and rejuvenate your skin, proving you with age-defying results. Yay!
In non-medical terms.
1. The doctor, in this case my friend, Dr Gerda Olmesdahl of the Noviskin Dermatology & Aesthetic Medical practise in Brooklyn Pretoria, draws two viles of blood from your arm like a standard blood test
2. The blood is placed in a centrifuge that spins at a rapid speed to separate your blood components. The Plasma Rich Placelets (PRP) are then drawn up and injected into the required areas using a very fine needle
3. The remainder of your placelet rich plasma is then applied topically after micro-needling
You can read more about the benefits of micro-needling with PRP here.
Although the price of this specific treatment varies from practise to practise, Dr Olmesdahl charges R 4250 per treatment.
Research and results have shown that the best results are obtained if you have your second treatment two to three weeks after your initial treatment.
After the two initial treatments DIAMOND PRP is performed every four months or three times per year. If Botox and fillers are part of your anti-aging, rejuvenation regime DIAMOND PRP is recommended one to two weeks before or after your treatment.
This procedure provided me with a youthful, overall glow and vibrant complexion. The long-term benefits is that it improves your overall skin health, with age defying results 🍑 plump & peachy
]]>And I thought: "What??"
She explained to me that, because I have darker pigment in my skin (yes, I do tan easily) I age slower and my skin is just in a better condition in general. Again: what??!
I was quite disappointed that this might be the common opinion about women with good/ great skin. So here are my own personal skin facts:
1. No, I don't have naturally good skin and definitely not any "good skin genes".
Both my own mother and her mother suffered from mild to extreme skin conditions including rosacea, enlarged pores, serious pigmentation and adult acne. On my father's side there were no serious conditions, but blackheads, pimples, dry skin with a very oily t-zone, fine lines and aging were and are all a reality.
2. I was on 20 and 30mg of roaccutan 4 years ago for my sudden flare up of adult acne in my late 20's.
3. After 4 pregnancies & being an absolute sun worshipper from young, I had two large & dark spots of pigmentation on my forehead and right cheek. They still flare up in summer, especially during our beach holidays.
4. I've always followed a very strict skincare regime & routine. Good skin takes effort. It takes really hard work. I never, ever go to bed with make-up on, no matter how tired I am or how late I get home. Not even when I was at varsity; after being out all night, I would get back to res just before sunrise and still wash my face before getting an hour of sleep before classes.
5. I've been sleeping on a 100% organic silk pillowcase every night, for the last 2 years. It truly makes a difference! (You can order your standard sized pillowcase in white/ caramel from me for R 550)
6. Skin gym. Whilst working with the Lifelab team dr Juanri introduced me to Skin Gym. This is a 10-week "skin workout"-program that you can do twice a year. I've done blog posts on Skin Gym and the new & improved Skin Gym Lite before, but leave a comment or send me an email if you would like to enquire about it.
7. What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while.
This is truest when it comes to your skin. You can go for the best and most expensive treatments known to man, but if you do not use good products and follow a really good regime every day, your skin will never live up to your expectations.
And on this point, enter Dermal Health and their Dermexcel range. Personally, I've used a number of different products - all with no significant result on my skin.
I was introduced to Dermal Health by Bernadette from Lifelab when the range was relatively new on the market and I'm forever grateful for that introduction 🙏🏼
I fell in love with the principle behind how this range of products work with your skin, teaching it to produce its own collagen & moisture from the inside, visibly slowing down the aging process. I also fell in love with the amount of active ingredients that these products contain, since it is locally manufactured, and my skin (acne, blemishes and pigmentation) loves all the actives. It heals better and looks healthier.
I thought I'll just share the story of how I'm definitely not "born this way". My good skin is self made, with a little help from my friends 😉
]]>Although I've typed out this blog earlier in August, I'm so glad I didn't post it before this freakishly cold front we woke up to on Spring day this morning.
When it's finally over, this season is ready to be packed away for good. Enough with being way too occupied with lock down, school work, hygiene, the cold and sorting out our homes.
If you are as happy as I am to be moving along to warmer days & freedom, now is the best time to make space in your wardrobe for summer items and create your most perfect, versatile, summer wardrobe to date. I'll start sharing my summer trends this week too ;)
Add these steps on your daily to-do-list to help you CLEAR OUT WINTER & INTRODUCE SUMMER.
1. Remove all coats from your wardrobe and drop them off at the local dry cleaner. You will pick them up clean, pressed & packaged in plastic, ready to be stored until next winter.
2. Remove all other winter jackets from your wardrobe. Empty the pockets, wash, fold & pack away. I prefer folding my jackets and storing them flat, but if your storage space is limited, hanging them in another wardrobe is also an option.
The most important thing is to keep them out of your wardrobe from which you have to choose summer outfits on a daily basis. My clients LOVE getting dressed since they split up their clothes by season.*
3. Wash & flat dry all your thick winter knits. I keep a few thin knits in my wardrobe for those cool and rainy summer days. The rest, all goes into storage in large plastic crates.
I spend time removing the lint (wolletjies) from each and every single one of my jerseys. It is a timely process, but taking really good care of your garments will allow you to get maximum wear out of them. This justifies spending more on garments as you get more than two seasons of wear out of each piece.
Inside the plastic containers I use small hotel soaps to keep any unwanted creepy crawly's from entering and eating away at the threads of my special items.
4. Leather & natural rubber boots are next. Wipe & nourish. For my rubber boots/ wellies I like using the oil based boot buffer by Hunter. On my leather boots I use a good combination cleaner & protector.
5. Lastly clean and pack away any other winter specific items. *Remember to keep your thin leather and denim jackets in your wardrobe. These are awesome all year rounders!

In Part 1 of The Full Theory on Fit, I wrote down all my principles of good fit for underwear, tops and jackets. Now, finally, in part 2 - we're addressing what to look at when trying on pants & jeans, skirts and dresses.
The better care you take of the textile your garment is made of, the more wear you will get out of your items.
A.) The waistband of your jeans should fit snug, but not tight. You should not have to wrestle or struggle into your jeans. You shouldn't have to suck in your tummy to fasten them either.
B.) Check the front pockets of your pants/ jeans. They should lie flat and not gape open or pull. I normally have my seamstress sew my front pockets closed. In my almost 36 years I've never used my jeans/ pants' front pockets for anything.
C.) When you sit down, the back of your jeans should not gape open or fall so low as to show even the tiniest bit of 'crack'.
D.) When trying on pants/ jeans to buy, you want to be able to move about, bend over, reach and sit down comfortably.
E.) The rise of your pants/ jeans (where the waist band sits on your torso) should suit your comfort and your preference for your body proportions and it should stay in place as you move around. You really shouldn’t need to be pulling your jeans up or down throughout the day. If this is the case, keep hunting! My favorite friend (client) calls this rise, a "mik". So if ever you hear me say: "Jou mik is te laag" or "Jou mik is te hoog" I am referring to the rise of your pants in the crotch area.
F.)
Here are the checklists for you to study & pay attention to from now on, especially when shopping and trying on new items of clothing.
]]>There’s more to fit than just getting your body into a specific piece of clothing. By breaking away from the dated ways of image consulting, I've shifted my focus to these two things when working with my clients:
It’s been said that "if you don’t have fit, you don’t have style" and that "good style hinges on good fit". But what do you truly know about it and how your clothes should fit your body?
Here are the checklists for you to study & pay attention to from now on, especially when out shopping and trying on new garments.
In this article, Part 1 of The Theory of Good Fit, I'll discuss principles of the fit of
1. Underwear// A Good Foundation
2. Tops and
3. Jackets
Let's dive right in and if you're not too sure about something, leave a comment below.
1. A Good Foundation
Underwear is the essential layer of clothing you wear daily and proper fit here, should not be overlooked. By wearing a bra that fits you properly, it can transform the look of your outer garments as well as your overall appearance.
Choose well by:
2. Tops
I know that oversized garments are really trendy at the moment, but keep an open mind here. Some brands like Country Road, for example, have adjusted the style of their basic hoodies/ track tops ranges that are available every year, to keep up with the times. Some of my clients just buy one size larger than what they normally buy to successfully pull off an oversized look. That aside, when buying your tops (this includes t-shirts, button shirts & jerseys/ sweater tops) you should pay attention to the following:
3. Jackets
Although most jackets are designed to be form fitting, your jacket shouldn’t be confining. A perfectly fitted jacket can really make your outfit, so pay attention to:
Part 2 of The Full Theory of Fit will be up by the end of this week!

]]>Hearing the phrases "less is more" and "quality over quantity" over and over again? Then you probably know that minimalism is a fast growing trend and steadily gaining popularity, especially over the last year// think Marie Kondo-fame.
Opinions of and motivations as to why to practise minimalist principles may vary; in our modern society, and especially amongst my own clients and friends, people feel the need to move away from consumerism and buy less, but of better quality. And I'm not just talking about clothes, shoes & accessories. Aka the "capsule wardrobe".
As an added extra, the declutter movement has made it clear that there is a very strong connection between our mental health and our physical surroundings; having a few key pieces of furniture & freeing up space in your home by sorting through everything, you too may be on your way to start capsule living/ compartmentalizing!
I'm loving the concept. Especially after seeing first hand how it changes my clients' lives & attitudes towards getting dressed, drastically. The pressure is off and everyone feels healthier, more in control, calmer and lighter :)
Call it what you want to call it, the principle is as follow: a capsule/ compartementalized/ essential or French wardrobe consists of a controllable number of pieces of clothing - roughly around 50-80 pieces.
This wardrobe is built around a few classic pieces of solid colour and a few statement pieces to bring in your personal style (expression).
This manageable wardrobe saves you time, money and space. Less clutter = a happier life!
1. More effective & productive mornings. This way of managing your wardrobe takes the lengthy & overwhelming choices between options out of your life. By simplifying your wardrobe, you enjoy, want and appreciate every item in there. It also forces you into a simpler decision-making process that will save you time and energy.
2. Less impulse buying & less cognitive dissonance. If you are always "buying" but never feel like your items fit/ work well together and you are often hearing yourself say: "Why did I even buy this? I never wear it and it goes with absolutely nothing I own".
If this sounds like you, you will definitely want to consider a compartmentalized wardrobe. You will notice great savings and a better sense of overall appreciation for items. This justifies buying garments of better quality and design as you get more wear out of them.
3. A simple life is a happy life. Our days and schedules are hectic; working our way through home, kids, traffic, exercising, work, food shopping, cooking, homework, household chores, planning & relationships at a strenuous pace on a daily basis, and adding on top of that the urge/ temptation to "keep up" with everything you see on your phone & on social media...it's just all too much.
Over time, it causes unnecessary stress, anxiety, a feeling of amis and guilt about over-consuming in an already fragile world & diminishing earthly environment.
Life truly is complicated enough. Getting dressed shouldn't be. Simplify and be a new, confident, happy dresser; my minimalist way.

]]>It turns out one does not have to be born in Paris to have Parisian style or live & dress like a #Parisian.
After spending a few weeks in France over the last two years, I am very much consumed with the Parisian way// their style, beauty, food, drinks (champagne!), products, cosmetics and the way of life.
French flair has completely mesmerized me and I’ve been editing the way I style my own life and wardrobe and my clients' wardrobes since getting back to South Africa. The simple principle of
is absolute the new rhythm of my approach to buying and organising. With such limited space (in their closets and in their Parisian homes) clutter is not welcome anywhere.
I'm inspired to get by with less clutter in life – in my home and in my wardrobe. I've been thinking about every piece I choose to add to my life and it has been rewarding.
I’ve always been an advocate for “Quality Over Quantity” but with all my new #Frenchfluence and drive, I’ve decided to take my own style, and those of my clients, to the next level.
Here’s what I’ve learnt on how to step lightly around the fashion traps of the day and inspire your very own Parisian style// in attitude & in dress. A brand new state of mind.

]]>My life's passion is women's wardrobes.
During my 4 years at university I spent more than my free time (yes, I skipped class to go to work!) at Nicci Boutique in the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre. There I got to learn so much about retail and consumers, women's shopping habits and I also met my very first wardrobe client. I remember the exact moment, standing in front of her amazing closet, that I knew that this was my calling.
While growing up, I was the one who knew what the contents of every closet/ cupboard in our entire house was. If you needed to locate something, just ask Madeline ;) I spent hours going through every family members' wardrobe; discarding and organizing. I was impressed with the containers and labels my mother used to keep everything in the kitchen cupboards perfectly organised. I was absolutely fascinated with the contents of her wardrobe too; filled to the brim with clothes and keepsakes. I remember high heeled shoes in every colour imaginable, perfectly stored in high rows of stacked shoe boxes. I remember her jewellery; going through each box and putting on every piece. I live for wardrobes and I love the things they keep.
My career that started out in sales & buying turned into a full-time clothing, accessories and personal styling business in 2009, that I ran from my home. In 2013 I opened a small boutique store, InBloom Studio, in Pretoria. The high demands of running a retail store and being a mom of three, didn't allow much time for my wardrobe clients. And I missed it terribly.
Fast forward to NOW; my season of hard choices, failure(s), change and painful growth is over. I've taken stock, I've spent time planning, analysing and researching and I am extremely proud to share with you what I have been working on (and dreaming about) for more than a year.
